When I first installed this scanner, I installed the full software package which was on the CD. It worked well enough, including the buttons on the scanner etc.
Nevertheless, the software (MP Navigator EX) is extremely slow and crappy, and now doesn't work properly (buttons no longer work/software crashes after each scan is complete). I am not sure what change in my system caused that. I have been to the Canon website and made sure I have all the latest versions etc. What I would like, ideally, is not to have to use this MP Navigator EX thing at all, and just a basic scanner driver. Is that what 'ScanGear' is?To remove MP Navigator EX and start from scratch is it enough to just drag it out of the Applications folder? Sullair sk 55 compressor manual. Or is there more to do?Will Bonjour offer me ScanGear if I plug the scanner in by USB after removing MP Navigator EX?

Is that what 'ScanGear' is?I've never liked the Navigator application and have only used Image Capture and Preview in OS X 10.5 and 10.6.ScanGear is the scanner driver/interface that apps like Preview use to provide extended functionality, like resolution selection. To remove MP Navigator EX and start from scratch is it enough to just drag it out of the Applications folder? Or is there more to do?Pretty much. There are other files in your Mac relating to the Navigator app but trashing the file from Applications and then emptying the trash should suffice. Will Bonjour offer me ScanGear if I plug the scanner in by USB after removing MP Navigator EX?Connecting the scanner to the Mac via USB has nothing to do with Bonjour - that's a protocol for network devices. But yes, if you connect the scanner to your Mac you should still find that the CS8800F device located in Print & Fax still functions fine without MP Navigator installed.
Mrchi wrote:But when I press the 'scan' button in that application, nothing happens. After the preview you often need to select what portion of the image you want scanned. So you need to drag your mouse from one corner of the image to another to create a box. Then when you press Scan this is what is scanned. Also, the detailed view of the preview pane shows where the file is going to be scanned to, what file format it will be saved in and its default file name.
You may find that your image has been scanned and saved to this location.Any ideas what to try next? Should I install Scangear? You are using it. There is no ICA file for this scanner so Image Capture would be using ScanGear to communicate with the scanner. Since installing the Snow Leopard upgrade and the OS X 10.6.6 update recently I have been unable to use my Canoscan 8800F scanner to scan, the scanning software causes Photoshop CS to crash. Prior to upgrading to OS X 10.6.6 everything worked fine.I cannot find any support articles or up to date driver software on the Canon site, I have tried installing ScanGear MP780MP790 12131, but it doesn't work.I can scan using Image Capture but its pretty limited technically.Additionally Canon's MP Navigator EX 1.0 also refuses to work. Many thanks for any advice.
