So, I go on and off with Mudding. I used to play the best MUD out there (in my opinion), and then about 8 years ago, it started losing playerbase, and then it finally lost hosting.Well, it's back.
And, I'm fucking stoked. So I'm going to play again. Now, in the hiatus, I played End of the Line pretty hard on a few different year long occasions.
The last time I was playing, the final straw that made me quit again was client issues. What I want is a client with a very good mapping software, but I really need stability as well. I did a year long stint with C-MUD, and the mapper is awesome, but it crashed on me all of the effing time, and being that I like to PK, this is less than ideal.I also used Portal GT for a very long time, and I also think that it is awesome. And, it also crashes like crazy.I understand that there are the old school options like TIN TIN and COMET, and even just a plain old telnet, but I really want to maximize my playing on this old MUD that I played (very poorly) in the past. Can anyone point me in a good direction? And, thank you in advance.TL;DR Can anyone tell me a very stable mud client that has strong mapping capability?. Oh, I LOVE portal. I think it is the best out there. However, the problem that I have with it is that the larger the maps are, the more often a crash occurs.
No message, no nothing. Just.boop program not running anymore. The biggest annoyance about that is that this problem does not occur until the maps are big enough to start causing it. Which means, after months and months of mapping like crazy (which is the way I like to mud). So, then it starts crashing like crazy, and then all that work is down the toilet because I can't port those maps to other systems.Really, the whole reason for this post is to see if there is something better than portal or CMUD, otherwise, I'm going to basically go through that same terrible nightmare again tonight, in that I cannot wait to start playing (I'm chomping at the bit here).
This is the answer to the question in the title of your post, which made me click to respond, not the different question you ask at the end of your post.I still rock out with tinyfugue - the client of champions. It's very stable. I was pretty pissed when that happens. I think zMUD is the ONLY piece of software I ever actually bought because I liked it enough to support the developer. Never again.I've tried using cMUD, but what pisses me off most is that I became so reliant on the window icon changing color from blue to green in the taskbar. That way I could quickly know when to tab back to my game window while working on code, etc.I haven't been able to find another client that does that. I also can't find one that doesn't feel bulky and gross on my netbook or laptop.
It sucks, because I'd settle for any client that pages up and down like zmud (and ctrl-z un-scrolls), and changes icon color in my win7 taskbar when there's new output in my window. Hell, I'd pay $30 for that all over again. But noooo. You paid, what, $20-30 for a piece of software that has netted you how many hundred hours of playtime?A piece of software that was available and updated for 10 years with free updates throughout the entire time, with huge new features added regularly and thorough upgrades to the scripting system, automapper, and numerous other huge bits of functionality. But yeah, I'm sure you got a bad deal out of your $30. I would never want to support an application developer with such a shoddy work ethic that they would release a new product after 10 years of maintaining the other one for free.
